The context for this theme makes historical reference to the industrial and rural heritage of the North East. Built upon innovation Teesside, in particular, was and still is at the forefront of ground breaking new technological developments. Within the contemporary arts East Cleveland has a long illustrious history of progressive new artists emerging and influencing the art world. Notably being home to the Northern Impressionists in the 19th Century and most recently producing the
headline grabbing Yarn Bombers.
Saltburn Arts Fair is seeking to curate a special show of 20 artists to showcase their work in the newly refurbished Pavilion at Kirkleatham Museum.
Artists are asked to consider how they are pushing the future of visual arts through their practice and how different environments, natural, industrial, domestic or otherwise influence their work.
Curators from The Contemporary Art Society and mima are supporting the programme through participating in a panel discussion to be held on Saturday 1 June.
