Hardspace: Shipbreaker PS5 review - Mouse is somehow more convenient

The acclaimed spaceship demolition sim has made its way to the PlayStation 5 and Friv2Online Studio, and we haven't missed a chance to take a look at the next-gen version of the game. We share our impressions in the review.

We talked about what Hardspace: Shipbreaker is like in May, when the game left early access on PC. We will not repeat ourselves, we only note that the console version received exactly the same set of content as the computer one.

This is a wonderful meditative simulator of the dismemberment of unnecessary spaceships, the main character of which will pay an incredibly large debt by doing this dangerous job. The game is full of routine, dark humor and disorienting scenes, but if you choose a profession simulator, then Hardspace: Shipbreaker is one of the best options.

Next, let's talk about the console version of the game. Moreover, there is something to talk about. By launching the native version of Hardspace: Shipbreaker on PlayStation 5, we wanted to take advantage of that platform. To some extent, expectations were met, to some extent not.

For example, you will have to forget about the advanced functions of the DualSense controller : alas, only basic vibration feedback is implemented in the game. No resistance of triggers and use of built-in speaker. In addition, the developers for some reason accompanied the work of the protagonist's jetpack with vibration, despite the fact that the jetpack is activated when he moves. That is, the deflection of the stick will be accompanied by vibration feedback, and very quickly it starts to tire - so much so that you want to turn off the vibration after half an hour of intensive play.

Speaking about using a gamepad, I would also like to note that playing Hardspace: Shipbreaker with it is not as convenient as with a mouse. Here you often need to aim at small objects, and since it takes place in space, and the movements of the protagonist have a certain inertia, the control becomes quite viscous.

In the settings, you can adjust the sensitivity of the controller, but it is difficult to achieve smooth camera behavior. Including due to the operation of graphics modes. The former prioritizes resolution and picture quality, while locking the frame rate at 30 fps. The second unlocks the frame rate, however, it feels like it does not reach 60 fps. Therefore, the management remains not very comfortable.

At the same time, Hardspace: Shipbreaker on PS5 has a wonderful picture, corresponding to the maximum graphics settings of the PC version of the game, and saves and locations in the project load very quickly.

Hardspace: Shipbreaker gives you an amazing experience in recycling derelict spaceships. The game is memorable: routine gameplay becomes a habit, gradually unlocking upgrades make work easier, and many ways to die are discouraging. If we consider all versions of the title, then the console one cannot be called the best: we would recommend playing on PC if possible. However, the game is only a little less comfortable on console, so you won't run into any major issues if you buy the PS5 or Xbox Series X version.
