This is an exciting week for New York City, with The New Museums
Festival of Ideas for the New City taking place from the 4th to the 8th of May. The Festival constitutes a major collaborative effort of Downtown organisations, all working together as a creative force, to imagine and explore how artistic forces will shape and influence the future of the city.
This mass gathering of innovative and creative people could leave you stuck for where to turn to first if you're in New York this week, and you fancy some fantastic Downtown art time. To help you out, we want to bring one project in particular to your attention:
Project for Empty Space.
Project for Empty Space is a non-profit organisation that was founded by Meenakshi Thirukode and Jasmine Wahi. The organisation is dedicated to bringing cutting edge contemporary art to the community through use of abandoned spaces across the city.
This week, Project for Empty Space will join the Festival of Ideas for the New City by presenting a performance by CHOKRA on the 7th and 8th of May. The performance will take place at 181 Stanton, so if you're in the area you should definitely drop by. Even if you're not, this will be worth the trip.
The performance, entitled Jawaz Al-Saqr (Falcon Passport), will be from 10pm onwards on the 7th, and also from 9am - 12pm on the 8th. It will take place in a vacant outdoor lot on Stanton that is owned by the city. You can find out more about the performance itself at the
Project for Empty Space website.
Gallereo is proud to be an official sponsor of the event, and wish Project for Empty Space much success with their goal of fostering community building and education through the development of interactive public art.
