Friday 05th August 2011Featured Artist with A Twist: Our 100th Twitter Follower

Back in June, we reached out 100th follower on Twitter, and as a consequence, we gave that follower a free website with Gallereo as a big thank you!

We have all kinds of followers on Twitter, so it was genuinely hit and miss as to who was going to be the 100th, and whether they would even have an interest in setting up a website with Gallereo.

Luckily, our 100th follower was a dedicated and talented artist, whose work as been a pleasure to view and whose progress with Gallereo has been strong.

I'd like to introduce you to the work of Nigel Painting.

Nigel is based in the North of England (another coincidence as our Twitter followers are a global bunch), and he uses paint, print and digital media to bring an array of subject matter to life through exemplary form, colour and texture.

In his own words, Nigel states that "I'm almost surprised to recognise that it's the act of painting that currently defines most of what I do as an artist. I've long been aware of the historical loading of painting as a cultural signifier and have adopted a cunning plan of generally eschewing oil on canvas in favour of more culturally flimsy materials. In this way, I imagine that I'm escaping some historical burdens and setting up encounters with a range of fresh challenges."

Here at Gallereo we are excited to see what Nigel has in store and how his work develops. A big thank you to him for being our 100th Twitter follower and we hope that his new website helps him to display his work to a wider audience, to further his career, and bring him lots of new fans.

Thursday 23rd June 2011New Featured Artist Website: Oliver Lindsay Sculpture

It's Featured Friday once again, and we're very pleased to be able to offer you a sneak preview of the work of sculptor, Oliver Lindsay

Oliver has been studying for a BA in Fine Art from the University of Leeds in the UK, an endeavour which secured him the Passey Prize for the best original artwork at the University of Leeds degree show this year.

As well as exhibiting at the degree show, Oliver's work was also recently been exhibited as part of an exhibition titled WOODPLASTERFILM. The exhibition was self-curated by the artists involved, all of whom were art students at Leeds University.

The show was characterised by the materials used by the artists, with aesthetic and material concerns at the forefront of the artist's practice.

Oliver's work sees the appropriation of found wood and natural objects, assembled into sculptural forms with a self professed low-tech aesthetic. Ideas of manufacturing and tensions between the man-made and natural are explored through minimalist geometrical compositions.

Take a look through Oliver's work on his brand new artist website

Saturday 21st May 2011New Featured Artist Website: I Am John Dogsfield

This weeks featured site, is not the creation of just a single artist, but rather the accumulative work of a diverse group of artists working in Leeds in the UK.

In March this year, these artists came together under curator Nella Aarne, to hold an exhibition titled I Am John Dogsfield. The show was held in a converted terraced house; an interesting location that sees the convergence of a once domestic building in to an institutionalised space, with only hints of creature comforts left intact.

While not motivated by this subtle cross-over, the exhibition was able to go someway to playing with the idea of fake domesticity and questioning ideas of form and function.

The I Am John Dogsfield website gives a full description, layout and rundown of the exhibition, along with a gallery set out by room, and a page for each of the artists involved.

Take a look at their fantastic site to find out more!
